These are trying times in the United States. Every day it seems like we are seeing more and more leftists take to the streets and behave in a violent manner. This presents unique situations to self-defense minded individuals. A firearm is excellent but in these chaotic events it’s very easy to miss, and very easy to strike a non-attacker. That could leave you with a jail sentence very quickly. One option to defend yourself without worrying about causing severe harm to others is non-lethal crowd control weapons.
A non-lethal crowd control weapon needs to be easy to use, legal to use and preferably something that can be used over and over without much maintenance. I’ve found five options I feel are perfect for non-lethal crowd control.
SALT s1 Pepper Gun
The Salt s1 pepper spray gun is the first on the list because it is the most convenient, most comfortable to carry and most effective non-lethal options for crowd control. The s1 Pepper Spray gun is a really big gun, that utilizes a Co2 cartridge to fire small balls that explode on impact. Those little balls are made of a mixture of powdered pepper spray and tear gas. When they strike an opponent, they cause eye and skin pain, as well as making it hard to breathe.
For crowd control, this system works well because it is a magazine-fed semi-automatic design. All you need to do is point and pull the trigger. The magazines hold seven rounds, and like a handgun, you can rapidly reload the weapon with an additional magazine. The projectiles are propelled by a standard CO2 cartridge that will allow the gun to be fired 21 times before its empty.
The Salt s1 has an effective range of 150 feet and throws a pepper ball with the same force as a 50 MPH fastball. This allows you to quickly disperse a crowd and to strike with some real power. The Salt s1 is a compact powerhouse that could quickly turn the tide of attack against a group.
The PepperBall VKS is the big boy version of the s1, in a way. The VKS looks and feels like a AR 15. The weapon is magazine-fed, and the stock hides a large air tank. The gun mimics several of the AR 15s controls. This includes the charging handle and magazine release. The VKS can also be fed from a hopper, and it functions with either Pepperballs or the more projectile type VXR CS rounds.
The hopper gives you 180 rounds of pepper balls, and the magazine mode allows you to engage targets out to 150 feet. The VKS will enable you to deal with a huge group of individuals and do so rapidly. This AR 15 sized weapon is well suited for home or business defense or to keep in your vehicle during exciting times.
It’s rapid-fire, low recoil, and can disperse close-range fury, or long-range precision. The VKS is an excellent system and one well suited for crowd control and target engagement. If you need to change the mind of a mob of communist critters, the VKS will do it.
While hitting an opponent at range is always desirable that doesn’t mean you can’t engage with some close-range force. A melee weapon is a powerful tool to force the compliance of an unruly crowd. Most violent mobs are looking for an easy target, and someone swinging a weapon in a disorderly manner will do that. Batons are famous for use by police when it comes to crowd control.
Batons by companies like Asp are perfect for close-range combat and are easy to use. Collapsible batons are easy to carry and hit like a force of nature. They can break bones, cause severe bruising, and cause some severe pain. If a crowd rushes you, you can strike out and strike hard with a baton.
Batons are one option, but so are weapons like the Brooklyn Smasher from Cold Steel. This polymer baseball bat is designed for martial arts use and will again cause some severe pain. These melee weapons are well suited for close quarter combat and cause pain – lots of pain.
Plus, they are cheap, lightweight and easy to carry.
The Arma 100 is a non-lethal bean bag launcher designed to cause pain and knock an opponent down. It utilizes both nitrogen and CO2 to launch a bean bag at the speed of a fastball. The Arma 100 is a little shorter than a baseball bat and works like a good old-fashioned boomstick. The Arma 100 is completely legal, requires no special permitting and can be used by anyone.
It is a single shot weapon, but it strikes with serious authority. Reloading is quick and easy, and in a pinch, it can be swung like a bat itself. The Arma 100 is significantly cheaper than your average gun and is easy to carry. It also doesn’t look like a gun which can be a major benefit should police show up. There won’t be any mistaking what the Arma is.
The Arma is a bit big for daily carry but could fit in a gym bag or be a weapon you leave in a vehicle as a “just in case” tool.
Less Lethal Shotgun Ammo
The last one on this list is one of the most dangerous and should be approached with caution. Less lethal shotgun ammo from companies like Fiocchi is potent and powerful. These 12-gauge rubber buckshot loads deliver brutal and effective non-lethal firepower. The danger comes with introducing a non-lethal solution into a lethal weapon. Shotguns are lethal weapons and you should use as much caution as possible when using non-lethal shotgun ammo.
A non-lethal shotgun option hits hard and fast with a brutal level of effectiveness. A shotgun loaded with less lethal ammo is a very effective weapon for dealing with multiple threats. A pump action shotgun can hold anywhere from 5 to 8 rounds of non-lethal ammunition. You can rapidly fire the weapon, and the lethal nature of shotguns will be a mental deterrent.
Rubber buckshot spreads fast and firing it into a crowd of angry attackers can give you multiple hits on multiple attackers. From experience, I can tell you rubber buckshot is absolutely brutal and extremely painful. No one will take a round of it and keep coming.
These tools are rugged and effective. They’ll cause severe pain and can disable an attacker quite quickly. Most crowds lose momentum once they start feeling pain, and this will lead them to move away from you and find something else to destroy. If they put your back to the wall you best attack like a caged animal, and the weapons listed above give you the claws to do so. The key to success with any of these weapons is practice. Practice often and learn these weapons inside and out. Be prepared, be ready and be armed.
